McKean County Teen Selected to National Conference
Congratulations to Stephen McFall, a McKean County 4-H member, who has been selected along with 5 other youth from across the United States to participate on the National 4-H Conference Youth Leadership Team. The conference will be held in Washington, DC from March 24 - 29, 2012.

It was 180 lbs. and was made possible by the new Pennsylvania extended bear season this year.
Jeff Tanner, Smethport, received the Volunteer of the Year Award, in the form of a walking stick, from Keep PA Beautiful President, Shannon Reiter, at the recent annual meeting held in Latrobe, PA. Jeff has served as President of the Keep PA Beautiful Affiliate, PA CleanWays of McKean, for over seven years.

PA District 9 Title! First time ever!
November, 2011 - Brooke Andera (pictured first, L-R) from Great Valley, NY placed 5th overall in the Dairy All-American Show competition in Harrisburg, PA. There were a record number of junior youth competing in this year’s show. Brook is a member of Cattaraugus County 4-H Program.
On September 23, 2011 Grand Matron Janet R. Siano (right), Order of the Eastern Star of the State of New York, presented a $1,000 check to ACCORD Corporation. The funding will be used to assist children accessing ACCORD’s respite care and Angel Action holiday gifts giving programs. Accepting the gift on behalf of ACCORD was Jodi Adams (left), Community Operations Director.

Kane Lumber and Fuel Has Won the 2011 Scarecrow Contest
Business participants displayed their scarecrows for a week in celebration of FallFest at Flickerwood. As the winner, Kane Lumber and Fuel chose the Kane Area Community Center to receive competition proceeds because of everything they do for kids in Kane and their hard work to fill the needs of the community.
GIANT PUFFBALL FOUND IN COUPLE'S BACKYARD!
Lois and Nathan Weir, Deer Creek Rd., Portville, NY, watched this giant puffball mushroom grow rapidly in their backyard. It measures 9" high and 12 1/2" in diameter. When a deer started nibbling on it, they decided to pick it and bring it in to be photographed before it was no more!

S.W.A.M.P. Teen Center Opens In Port Allegany
The S.W.A.M.P. (which stands for Success With Achievement, Motivation, and Preparedness) Teen Center held its Grand Opening on June 2, 2011. A project of the local Port Allegany Girl Scouts, the center will provide educational and social activities for students who have completed grades 7-12. 2011 Allegany County Clothing Revue "4-H Remembers When..."
On Friday, May 6th at the First Baptist Church in Cuba, the annual 4-H Clothing Revue was held. Over 80 people attended the show. Close to thirty 4-H'ers "showed off' their talents and creations, with their family and friends to cheer them on.

On Monday, April 4, 2011, the Richburg-Wirt Historical Society received the Francis G. and Beatrice S. Bartoo Memorial Fund, a $100,000 endowment fund presented by Robert Christian, executive director of Allegany County Area Foundation. The endowment was given by the late Francis and Betty Bartoo of Richburg and their four daughters were all on hand for this special evening. Jan. 2011 - Richburg Colonial Library sponsored a contest to make 2,011 knitted or crocheted, nine-inch squares by 2011 for Roswell Hospital. Twenty-five ladies ended up making 2,053 squares!! The top two ladies were Karen Bell, below on the right-of Richburg, NY and Shirley Morseman, below on the left of Friendship, NY.

On Thursday, August 5 at 7pm at the McKean County Historical Society in Smethport, PA, Bernard Hammond presented a program entitled "Guns of the Revolution". His passion for and knowledge of older guns impressed and entertained all who were in attendance. Dressed in period attire, he focused on the time period involving the Revolutionary War.

Bike Night at Sena Kean Manor
Sena Kean Manor hosted its annual "Bike Night" on Thursday, June 17, 2010 in the front lawn of the facility. The event was open to the public and many people attended including residents and their families at Sena Kean Manor. There were 19 bikes total, most of them from the Smethport Legion Riders.

Zachary Mitchell celebrated his 4th birthday with a party on Sunday, June 6, 2010. He asked guests to bring presents for the dogs at Joyful Rescues in Cuba instead of presents for himself.

On Sunday, June 13, 2010, Mike Randall, WKBW-TV's chief meteorologist, entertained the crowd with his excellent performance and impersonation of Mark Twain at the BRCS High School. He later visited the Bolivar Free Library for a "meet and greet" on the occasion of their 100th Anniversary!

On April 24, 2010, Andrew Ray, a boy scout in the Bolivar Richburg Troop #739, completed his Eagle Scout Project at the Richburg Colonial Library. Andrew's project was to improve the landscape around the building, make a safer railing for patrons and create a newer, larger sign for the public to see.

Dollar General Annual Toy Drive Provides Toys for Local Children
The Dollar General Store in Bolivar, NY began collecting toys and monetary donations for their Annual Toy Drive the day after Thanksgiving. Georgia Prosser, Manager of the Bolivar Dollar General, enlisted the help of Kenyon Andrus Post #772 Legion and Auxiliary members to help wrap the toys and distribute them to area children.
On Sunday, Dec. 13th, Santa visited the Bolivar American Legion and several gifts were handed out to local children. The remaining toys were distributed to the Bolivar Area Head Start children and B-RCS Pre-K students on Wed., Dec. 16 at the Pre-K building.

Kindness Baskets Were Made and Delivered
The United Methodist four year old pre-school class in Smethport has been studying kindness. Kindness baskets were made with donations from the children, and delivered to Sena Kean and Lakeview nursing homes. Thanks to the parents for their generous donations!!

The Eldred Borough Ambulance building and 2 ambulances were severely damaged by a fire early Sunday morning, July 19, 2009.
On Wednesday, June 24, 2009 a group of cyclists from the Bike and Build organization stopped by the Smethport Senior Center for an ice cream treat! Bike & Build organizes cross-country bicycle trips which benefit affordable housing groups.
The 80 ft. high steeple at the First Presbyterian Church in Port Allegany was being refaced the week of June 22, 2009.
