Julia H. Bartholomew DeLill


“beloved wife, mother, & grandmother”

Sweden Valley, PA---Julia H. Bartholomew DeLill, 68, of Sweden Valley, a former resident of Galeton, died in her home on Sunday, December 20, 2009, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 29, 1941 in Galeton, she was a daughter of John Jacob Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Carney Long. In September of 2008 in Coudersport, she married her longtime companion, Don P. DeLill, who survives.

Mrs. DeLill attended Galeton High School. For several years she was employed by the former Galeton Production and later was the produce manager for the former Martin’s Grocery Store in Galeton. She was also a homemaker.

A former resident of Galeton, Julia moved to Coudersport in 1985 and then moved to Sweden Valley in 1989. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, NASCAR, and her faithful dog, Babe. Her greatest love was her family.

Surviving besides her husband are a son, David R. Bartholomew of York; two daughters, Julie A. (Joe) Bartholomew-Iaquinto of Coudersport and Kelley M. Burkhardt of Sweden Valley; five stepsons: Don C. (Erin) DeLill and John T. DeLill, both of New Orleans, Louisiana, Danny T. DeLill of Reno, Nevada, Brian J. DeLill of North Wilkesboro, NC, and Justin M. DeLill of Sugar Grove, NC; nine grandchildren: Jessica L. Nealy, Megan L. Bartholomew, David Ryan Bartholomew, Melissa Sykora, Jennifer Sykora, Joseph Bartholomew-Iaquinto, Melanie Stoudt Blackwell, Ashley Marie Stoudt, and Aaron Burkhardt; four great-grandchildren: Kayla, Brenda, Madison, and Jenna; a sister, June (Russ) Schoonover of Harrisburg; two brothers, Fred Long of Galeton and Arthur (Ellen) Long of Chili, NY; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Julia was predeceased by her stepfather, Ervin Lehman; a sister, Mildred Main; and four brothers: Charles Long, John Long, Samuel Long, and Harry Long.

At Julia’s request, there will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced at the Sweden Valley Faith United Methodist Church, Sweden Valley with the Rev. M. Thomas Shatto, pastor, officiating.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the Potter County Hospice, 1001 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915 in Julia’s name.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
