H. Stockton Sisson


Ceres, PA----H. Stockton “Sox” Sisson, 94, of Ceres, PA, died at the home of his son in Ceres, PA, on Saturday, January 17, 2009 after a brief illness.
      Born July 19, 1914 in Almond, NY, he was a son of Howard S. and Marian Jordan Sisson.  On August 21, 1938 he married Mary L. White, who died on March 7, 2007.
     He was a graduate of Friendship Central School, class of 1930.  After turning down an offer to play professional baseball as an all American short stop for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Sox started working in local gas and oil fields where he retired in the 1980’s from Quaker State.
     Mr. Sisson was a member of the Ceres United Methodist Church, an active member and board member of the former Ceres Community Center, a life member and past officer of the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department, and president of the Ceres Cemetery Association.  
     He was an avid hunter and loved going to his camp.  He was known for his wit and smile.
     Surviving are a son, Stockton M. “Boots” (Ruthie) Sisson of Ceres, PA; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
     In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Sisson was predeceased by a son, Howard Stockton Sisson, Jr.; and a brother, Robert Sisson.
     At Mr. Sisson’s request, there will be no public visitation.  Private burial services will be held in the Ceres Cemetery.
     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105-3678 or to the American Cancer Society.
     Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
