Robert C. (Pete) Simar




   PORT ALLEGANY- Robert C. (Pete) Simar, 63, of Lexington, VA, formerly of Port Allegany, died Friday (Feb. 19, 2010) at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC, after a brief illness.
     Born March 30, 1946, he was a son of Byron R. and Arloween Murray Simar. On Dec. 19, 2004, in Lexington, VA, he married Cynthia A. Barber, who survives.
     Mr. Simar was owner and manager of Simar Enterprises, Lexington, VA, for the past 20 years.
     He grew up in the Port Allegany area and was a graduate of Port Allegany High School, Class of 1964. He was a graduate of Manfield State University, with a Bachelorís degree in Education, and Masters degree in English.
      He attended the Grace Presbyterian Church of Lexington, VA. He was a member of Effinger Ruritan Club, Masonic Lodge of Naples, NY, and numerous prayer groups.
     Surviving in addition to his mother, Arloween Simar of Turtlepoint, are his wife, Cynthia A. Simar of Lexington; five daughters, Sarah Simar of Lexington, VA, Natalie (Stan) Davies of Denver, CO, Frances (Steve) Zamarripa of Austin, TX, Emily (Donald) Floyd of Buenta Vista, FL, Celia (Frank) Kovac of Lexington, VA; a son, Michael Harris of Fredericksburg, VA; six grand-children, a brother, Richard (Vicki) Simar of Arcade, NY; and two sisters, Sharleen (Charles) Walker of Kincaid, IL, Marilyn (Henry) Minneboo of Merritt Island, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Bryon, brother, Robert L. Simar and sister, Donita L. Simar.
    Friends were received at the Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington, VA, Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. with a funeral service held Monday (Feb. 22, 2010) at 11 a.m.
     Friends will be received from 4-7:30 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 24, 2010) at the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, with funeral services at 7:30 p.m. with Richard Simar and Charles Walker officiating. Burial will be in Annin Creek Cemetery, Turtlepoint.
     A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, by Liberty Lodge 505, Port Allegany, in the funeral home.
     Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Port Area Ambulance Service.
