Dorothy E. Nelson
Shinglehouse, PA---Dorothy E. “Dot” Nelson, 81, of Oswayo Apartments, Shinglehouse, PA, died Monday, February 22, 2010 in Memorial Hospital, Towanda, PA after a long illness.
Born August 11, 1928 in Bradford, PA, she was a daughter of Robert E. and Elizabeth R. Ward Rea. On March 22, 1948 in Mt. Alton, PA, she married Andrew R. Nelson, who died on November 23, 1952.
Mrs. Nelson was a graduate of Smethport High School, Smethport, PA, class of 1947. She was employed at AVX Corporation in Olean, NY, retiring in 1990.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shinglehouse, a member of AARP, and a member of I.B.E.W. Local 1690 in Olean.
Mrs. Nelson enjoyed reading, crocheting, and sewing. She was one of the first residents of the Oswayo Apartments.
Surviving are three grandchildren, Robert L. “Bob” (Tracey) Nelson of Genesee, JoAnn M. (Todd) Phillips of Genesee, and Scott E. (Christie) Curry of Evans, Georgia; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Linda Clayton of Shinglehouse.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Nelson was predeceased by a son, Gary L. Nelson; a grandson, Andrew Richard Nelson; and four brothers: William Rea, Harold R. “Bob” Rea, Edgar L. “Roy” Rea, and Gerald A. “Jerry” Rea.
Friends may call at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday, February 25, 2010 from 10 to 11 a.m. at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport, PA.
