Jay N. Stickles


SMETHPORT, PA - Jay N. Stickles, 75, of 12942 Route 59, Smethport, passed away Thursday (Feb. 18, 2010) at his home.
    Born Oct. 28, 1952 in East Smethport, he was a son of Miller C. and Ethel Love Stickles. He was first married to Claudia A. Rittberg, who predeceased him April 11, 1995. On Jan. 1, 2005, in Smethport, he married Elizabeth "Libby" Riley, who survives.
    Mr. Stickles was a 1952 graduate of Smethport High School and attended Williamsport, PA, Area Community College. He was a bank teller at Hamlin Bank and Trust Co. of Smethport for many years before retiring.
    He was a life member of the Smethport Fire Department and was involved with Smethport Bingo at the Fire Hall for the past 39 years. He was also a member of the Port Allegany Moose Lodge 460. Mr. Stickles hunted and explored extensively throughout the western United States and had included his family members in many of his excursions. In addition, he penned a biography of his hunts which is currently pending publication.
    Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Deborah J. (Alan) Nick of Smethport; two sons, William E. (Lora) Stickles of Smethport and Jay N. (Lori) Stickles Jr. of Exton, PA; a stepson, Mike (Karen) Riley of Ocala, FL; two stepdaughters, Kathy Crosby of Smethport and Jodi (Michael) Yohe of Bradford, PA; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane A. (Archie) McKellop of Erie, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
    Besides his parents and first wife, Mr. Stickles was predeceased by one brother and three sisters.
    Visitation will be held Sunday at 11 a.m at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, Pa. Funeral and committal services will be held Monday (Feb. 22, 2010) at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Fred Moore, pastor of the Rew United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport, PA.
