Raymond L. Allen
BOLIVAR, NY - Raymond L. Allen, 56, of 98 Davis St. passed away Friday (Feb. 19, 2010) in Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following a brief illness.
Born June 15, 1953, in Wellsville, he was a son of Wayne and Ruby Moses Allen. He was a graduate of Bolivar Central School, Class of 1971, and a graduate of Williamsport PA Community College.
Ray was employed as a tool designer for Dresser Rand Co., Wellsville, from 1987 to 2003. Later he was a self-employed contractor in the Bolivar area.
He was a former member of the Bolivar Fire Department, served on the Board of Education for Bolivar Central School District and Bolivar-Richburg Central School District.
Ray coached Little League baseball and was instrumental in starting girls' youth softball. He also officiated wrestling and girls' high school softball. Ray owned and enjoyed classic cars.
Surviving are three daughters, Jennifer (Jason) Burt of Bolivar, Katie (Brody) Stein of Georgia and Kelly Allen of Florida; two grandchildren, Justice Stein and Renae Stein; his mother, Ruby Allen of Bolivar; two sisters, Janet (Frank) Calcagno of Belfast and Brenda (Bob) Torrey of Wellsville; one brother, Robert (Marlene) Allen of Flemington, KY; a sister-in-law, Jody Allen of Bolivar, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased in death by his father, Wayne Allen in 1961; and a brother, Wayne "Bud" Allen in 2009.
Friends may call at the Schaffner Funeral Home, Inc. in Bolivar on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday (Feb. 25, 2010) at 11 a.m. in Bolivar United Methodist Church. The Rev. Larry Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar.
