Clifford F. Lyons
loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather
OLEAN, NY - Clifford F. Lyons, of 1511 Lillibridge Road, Portville, passed away on Tuesday (Feb. 23, 2010) in the Olean General Hospital emergency room.
Born Feb. 20, 1923, in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late Floyd and Bertha (Kessler) Lyons. On Feb. 25, 1984, he married Virginia R. Blakeslee Taggerty, who survives.
Mr. Lyons served in the United States Army during the World War II era.
He was a self-employed contractor in northern Pennsylvania and Western New York for many years. He enjoyed carpentry, hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Lyons is survived by two sons, Gary (Sandy) Lyons of Depew, NY and David (Carol) Lyons of Grand Island, NY; one stepson, Donald Taggerty; three stepdaughters, Rosemary (Tom) Wainer, Deborah (Mike) Bechelli and Johneta (F.J.) Wilson, all of Portville, NY; a sister, Eva Keller, of Little Genesee; 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lyons was predeceased by a son, Robert Lyons; three brothers, Lavere Lyons, Harold Lyons and Irvin Lyons; and two sisters, Hazel Cochran and Evenlyn Favorite.
Friends and family will be received today (Feb. 25, 2010) at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., at 51 S. Main St., Portville, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., where funeral and committal services will be held at 8 p.m. Rev. William Allen, pastor of Christ United Methodist Church, in Olean will officiate. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
