Walter F. Phillips

Calabash, NC---Walter F. Phillips, 77, of Calabash, NC, formerly of Shinglehouse, PA, died Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Loris Healthcare Hospital, Loris, SC, after a short illness.
Born July 2, 1932 in Wayne, NY, he was a son of Walter L. and Jennie Sustakoski Phillips. He married Rita J. Case, who survives.
Mr. Phillips was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, class of 1950. He attended American University in Washington, D.C. and was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Korea.
He was employed 14 years as an engineer for Upson Paper Board Company and 16 years for Diversified Manufacturing both of Lockport, NY. He retired in 1992.
Mr. Phillips was a member of St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church in Shallotte, NC. He was a member of Calabash Elks Lodge and a member of the Calabash American Legion. He was a life member and former Commander of the VFW in Lockport, NY. He was an avid golfer, once having made a hole in one. He loved spending time with his family, especially attending the annual Phillips reunion in Shinglehouse.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Bradley Phillips of Buffalo, NY, Rodney Phillips of Pendleton, NY, and David Phillips of Burgaw, NC; two daughters, Lorrie Rigby of Alva, Florida and Karen Butcher of Calabash; nine grandchildren; a brother, Larry (Ina) Phillips of Springboro, PA; three sisters, Jerri (Albert) Olmstead, Janet (Bob) Dunsmore, and Helen Payne, all of Shinglehouse, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Phillips was predeceased by a brother, Denny Phillips.
A funeral mass was held on February 10, 2010 at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, Shallotte, NC. Inurnment was in the St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church Columbarium, Shallote.
