Laura M. Brewer

Shinglehouse, PA---Laura M. Brewer, 78, of Shinglehouse, PA, died Saturday, January 31, 2009 in her home surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born September 11, 1930 in Rathbone, NY, she was a daughter of Roy and Sybil C. Nute McKeel. On April 24, 1948 in Portville, NY, she married Robert W. Brewer, who survives.
Mrs. Brewer was a graduate of Athens High School, Athens, PA, class of 1947. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was deeply devoted to her family. She enjoyed traveling and outdoor activities. She loved to read and embroider.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Susan A. (Victor) Safford of Port Allegany, PA and Terri M. (Phil) VanWhy of Austin, PA; a son, Robert A. (Maureen) Brewer of Cuba, NY; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three sisters; a brother; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brewer was preceded in death by a son, Steven Brewer; a grandson; three sisters; and a brother.
Friends may call at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA on Monday, February 2, 2009 from Noon until 1:00 pm where funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Mr. David Amidon, of Shinglehouse, PA, will officiate. Burial will be in the Wells Cemetery, Little Genesee, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oswayo Valley Memorial Library, PO Box 188, Shinglehouse, PA 16748; the American Cancer Society; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
