Barbara Ann Weed
loving wife, mother and grandmother
MANCHESTER, NY - Barbara Ann Weed, 81, of Manchester, formerly of Portville, passed away Saturday (April 17, 2010) at the House of John in Clifton Springs after a lengthy illness.
Born Jan. 22, 1929, in Salamanca, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Helena June Lewis Whitmore.
Barb was raised in Little Valley and was a 1946 graduate of Little Valley High School. In 1950, she married James E. Weed, who predeceased her in 1986. In September 2001, she married Gordon B. Crowell of Manchester, who cared for her in the most devoted fashion and will miss her dearly.
She loved to travel and did so extensively. She enjoyed spending winter months in Thonotosassa, FL, summer days at the family cottage at Lime Lake and her vast group of friends in Manchester.
Barb was a member of the United Methodist Church in Manchester, a past member of Christ United Methodist Church in Olean and enjoyed singing in the church choir at Camp Lemora in Florida.
She was a homemaker who loved her family dearly and enjoyed reading, arts and crafts, playing cards and family gatherings.
Surviving besides her loving husband Gordon are two devoted sons, James C. (Anne) Weed of Shortsville and Robert V. (Michelle) Weed of Rushford; four grandchildren, Kathryn, Jonathan, Thomas and Jennifer; and beloved nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister, Jeanne Parkhurst, on March 1, 2010.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Wednesday (April 21, 2010) at noon in the Manchester United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Manchester United Methodist Church, 12 State St., Manchester, NY 14504; Red Jacket Central School District, James E. Weed Scholarship, 1506 Route 21, Shortsville, NY 14548; or to the House of John, 14 Spring St., Clifton Springs, NY 14432.
A graveside service will be held in Little Valley Rural Cemetery at a date and time to be announced.
