Bernadine E. Pire


 beloved sister and aunt
    OLEAN, NY - Bernadine E. Pire, 85, of Olean died Friday (May 21, 2010) at The Pines Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Olean.
    Born April 20, 1925, she was a daughter of the late James E. and Margaret Arnold Pire.
    Miss Pire graduated from Bolivar High School in 1948 and attended classes at the Olean campus of Jamestown Community College. She retired as a bookkeeper for Marra Bros. Co., Inc. and worked for many years at Oakleaf's Bookstore and in the office of Dr. Richard Collins, all in Olean.
    Her main interest since retirement was working as a volunteer for the Olean Historical Society.
    In addition to many years on the office staff, she was editor of the society's newsletter and wrote articles of local historical interest.
    Bernie ("Aunt B") loved her family and enjoyed the company of her nieces and nephews, playing a special role in all their lives.
    Surviving are a sister, Hazel M. Whitney of Westons Mills; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
    She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.
    Visitation will be held at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean, on Friday (May 28, 2010) from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by a memorial service. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar.
    In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Olean Historical Society, 302 Laurens St., Olean, NY 14760.
