Cleora L. Hoffman


    SMETHPORT, PA - Cleora L. Hoffman, 93, of Smethport died Monday (Feb. 2, 2009) at the Lakeview Senior Care & Living Center in Smethport.
    Born Jan. 25, 1916, in Browntown, she was a daughter of Frank Herman and Mae McGinley Foster. On Feb. 12, 1942, in Port Allegany, she married John A. Hoffman, who died April 17, 1983.
    Mrs. Hoffman was a 1934 graduate of Bradford High School. After graduation, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio, and worked for Ohio Chemical Co. and Pitney Glass of General Electric. After returning to Port Allegany, she was employed at Blatt Bros. Grand Theater.
    In 1951, she was employed by Swartz's Dry Goods and later by Buckheit's Dry Goods, also in Port Allegany.
    Mrs. Hoffman was a member of St. Gabriel Church in Port Allegany and St. Elizabeth Church in Smethport, was an SVRP at Sena-Kean Manor for many years, was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America in Port Allegany for over 50 years, member of Ave Maria #203 Catholic Daughters of America and served as a district deputy, and she was a member of AARP. She had served on all class reunion committees for the class of 1934 at Bradford High School.
    Surviving are two daughters, Sharon (David) Gulnac of Lewis Run and Rosemary (Robert) DaPolito of Olean, NY; a son, Joseph (Grace Ramsey) Hoffman of Eldred, grandchildren Mark, Scott and Brian Rice, Brenda and Christopher DaPolito and  Amanda Hoffman; Stepgrandchildren, Lori Waye and David Gulnac; great-grandchildren, Brian Rice, Skyler Rice and Caine DeGolier; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Taylor Hodges, Alexis Gulnac and Cody Hodges.
    Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes Inc., 105 N. Main St., Port Allegany. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday (Feb. 6, 2009) at 10 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, with Father Charles R. Schmitt as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Gabriel Cemetery, Port Allegany.
    A Christian wake service will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
