Raymond A. Johnson
OLEAN, NY - Raymond A. Johnson of 110 N. 9th St. died Sunday (May 30, 2010) at Wellsville Manor after a sudden illness.
Born March 5, 1942, in Olean, he was a son of Arthur and Frances Nowaczyk Johnson. On July 28, 1966, in Portville, he married Sheryl L. Miller, who predeceased him May 14, 2003.
Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Olean High School and attended St. Bonaventure University. He worked for many years for the youth in the area through the YMCA as a swimming and tennis instructor as well as a basketball coach. He also worked in the construction trade as well. For the past 30-plus years he had been a salesman and financier for Owl Homes of Allegany. It was there that he enjoyed expressing his sense of humor by joking and laughing with his co-workers.
He was very passionate about gardening, especially growing flower gardens at his home. He was also an avid pet lover as well as a sports fan, especially of basketball and baseball, and he enjoyed playing golf.
Surviving are two daughters, Beth Ann (John) Ratzel of Smethport, PA, and Amy Lynn Johnson of Olean; two granddaughters; one sister, Nancy (Thomas) Dalio of Jacksonville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean, from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (June 2, 2010) in the funeral home.
The Rev. Richard Husted, pastor of St. Bonaventure Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
