James E. Gold
beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather
ELDRED, PA - James E. Gold, 86, of Fowler Brook Road died Thursday (May 27, 2010) at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Born May 26, 1924, in Braddock, PA (Allegheny County), he was a son of James G. and Nona Paul Gold. On May 2, 1947, in Portville Methodist Church, he married Mary V. Windsor, who died Oct. 31, 2003.
Mr. Gold was a 1942 graduate of Otto High School, Duke Center, PA, and had resided in Eldred for many years. He and his wife spent winters in Auburndale, FL, for 10 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army, in communications, in the European theater.
He had been employed by Clark Bros., which later became Dresser-Clark, in Olean for 20 years as a welder and later for 10 years as a welder for Pierce Steel in Olean. He co-owned and operated Southern Tier Welding in Cuba from 1975 until his retirement in 1983.
He was a member of the Portville Masonic Lodge 579 and the Coudersport (PA) Consistory. He was also a member of the Eldred American Legion Post 887. He loved his dog Mitzie. He enjoyed dancing, traveling and camping with his wife.
Surviving are three sons, David (Laura) Gold of Eldred, James "Steve" (Becky) Gold of Olean, and John (Elaine) Gold of Allegany; five daughters, Nona Linn of Portville, Mary Beth (Norman) Glover of Portville, Teresa (Tom) Hirliman of Olean, Cathy (John) Werlau of Eldred, and Norma Gold of Eldred; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard (Jane) Gold of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Hirliman in 1974; and a brother, Gerald Gold.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
The family requests memorials be made to the Lamphier Cemetery Association or the Eldred Ambulance Fund.
