Melissa Ann (Missy) Sterling

BLUEFIELD, VA - Melissa Ann "Missy" Sterling, 37, of 106 N. Lane, Bluefield, died Tuesday (May 25, 2010) at Duke University Hospital after a long and courageous battle with diabetes.
Born Jan. 17, 1973, in Olean, she was a daughter of Phillip "Butch" Rich and his wife, Ginny Rich, of Bloomington, IL, and Sue R. Rivers and her husband, Richard, of Melbourne, FL.
Mrs. Sterling had been a resident of the Bluefield area for seven years, having moved there from New York. She was a loving wife, mother and daughter, and was the type of person that anyone would want for a sister. She was a mother figure to many, and she always put others before herself.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Earl C. Sterling of Bluefield; four children, Keri Green of Eldred, PA, Kasi Green, Alexis Sterling and Nicholas Sterling, all of Bluefield; a sister, Lisa McCullough and her fiancé Dave Ursoy of Olean; a brother, Greg Rich and his friend, Stacey Potter, of Bloomington, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends at Mercer Funeral Home, Bluefield, W.V., from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday (May 29, 2009). A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday (June 5, 2010) at the Portville American Legion.
The family requests that no flowers be sent, and that memorial contributions, if desired, be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26, Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
