Elizabeth Jane Cross
LITTLE VALLEY, NY - Elizabeth Jane Cross, 69, of Rock City Street, passed away Monday (May 31, 2010) at Olean General Hospital.
Born Sept. 8, 1940, in Red House, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Anna McStraw Weaver. On March 7, 1987, she married Gordon Cross, who survives.
Mrs. Cross attended Randolph Central School and worked from 1982 to 2006 at Signore Inc. in Ellicottville.
She was a member and past president of the Little Valley American Legion Post 531 Auxiliary; and she was a charter member, life member and past president of the Little Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8734 Auxiliary. She loved collecting angel statues, bowling and played the role of Easter bunny for the American Legion for 30 years.
Besides her husband of 23 years, she is survived by three daughters, Arminda Rebecca Joyce of Corpus Christi, TX, Teri Lynn (Francis) Miles and Jami Marie Shaul, both of Little Valley; a son, Joseph Alan (Tonia) Phillips of Otto; two stepdaughters, Wendy Joy (Joel) Breth of Stevensville, MD, and Holly Lynn Cross of Dayton, OH; a stepson, John Charles Cross, serving with the U.S. Air Force in California; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Ann) Weaver and James (Cathy) Weaver, both of Randolph; three sisters, Helen Hinkler of Erie, PA, Cecelia (Bob) Brisley of Randolph and Rebecca Curcio of Duke Center, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Jacob Leslie Phillips; two sisters, Mary Ann Hunt and Esther May Henry; a brother, Charles Raymond Weaver; and a son-in-law, Dennis Joyce.
Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday (June 4, 2010) at Mently Funeral Home, Inc., 411 Rock City St., Little Valley, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sue Fish, officiating. Burial will be in Little Valley Rural Cemetery.
