Joseph A. Tanner Sr.
beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather
ELDRED, PA - Joseph A. Tanner Sr., 82, of Biggins Road, died Thursday (June 3, 2010) at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA, following a brief illness.
Born April 30, 1928, in Ceres, PA, he was a son of Chester A. and Bertha Nolan Tanner. On Jan. 3, 1951, in Belmont, NY, he married Kathryn J. Brooks, who passed away Oct. 15, 1989.
Mr. Tanner had attended school in Bell Run and Annin Creek and had resided on Biggins Road since 1953.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Army as a corporal in Germany, where he was a heavy equipment operator and driver.
He had spent his entire life working on the Biggins dairy farm, where he lived and raised his family. He loved trapping, especially fox; and deer hunting.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph A. Tanner Jr. of Cattaraugus, NY, and Roger (Glenica) Tanner of Eldred; a daughter, Robin (Gary) Dulanski of Olean, NY; two grandchildren, Javan Tanner of Cattaraugus and Avie (Gregory) Shawl of Portville, NY; great-grandson, Sebastian Tanner of Cattaraugus; a sister, Hellena Sherwood of Castile, NY, special niece, Emogene "Punkie" Reed of Shinglehouse; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Alfred and Melford Tanner; and two sisters, Minnie McDonald and Beatrice Dieter.
Friends may call at the Frame Funeral Home, from noon to 2 p.m., Monday (June 7, 2010) at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Glenn Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
The family respectfully declines flowers. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
