Wayne M. (Bud) Allen
BOLIVAR - Wayne M. "Bud" Allen, 59, of 150 Olive St., passed away on Friday (Feb. 6, 2009) in Buffalo General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born Jan. 25, 1950, in Wellsville, he was the son of Wayne M. and Ruby Moses Allen. He married the former Jody Pinney on July 7, 1973, in Bolivar, who survives.
Mr. Allen was a graduate of the Bolivar Central School Class of 1968. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. serving in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971. He was employed by the former ABB Air Preheater Corp. in Wellsville from 1972 to 1991. From 1992 to 2002 he was employed by Shaner Development Co. of Bolivar.
Mr. Allen was a member and past president of the Bolivar Lions Club where he held every office position in the club. In 1997, he received the Melvin Jones Award and in 2001 received the Robert J. Uplinger Award. He was also a member of the Kenyon Andrus Post 772 American Legion in Bolivar.
Mr. Allen was a former baseball and football coach for the Bolivar Little League and was a member of the Bolivar-Richburg chain gang for many years. He was a member of the Allegany County IDA from 2001 until he died. He served as Bolivar village trustee from 1981 to 1985; mayor of Bolivar from 1985 to 1991; town supervisor from 1999 to 2001; and village trustee from 2002 until he died.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Dustin (Heather) Allen of Bolivar and Colby Allen of Bolivar; mother Mrs. Ruby Allen of Bolivar; two sisters, Janet (Frank) Calcagno of Belfast and Brenda (Robert) Torrey of Wellsville; two brothers, Robert (Marlene) Allen of Flemingburg, KY and Raymond Allen of Bolivar; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne M. Allen in 1961.
Friends may call at the Schaffner Funeral Home Inc. in Bolivar Sunday from 4 to 7pm and Monday from 3 to 6pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (Feb. 10, 2009), at 11am in the Bolivar United Methodist Church. Deacon Robert Moses of Hamburg will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Bolivar.
