Gerald A. Rea

Shinglehouse, PA---Gerald A. “Jerry” Rea, 67, of Shinglehouse, PA, died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital Extended Care Unit, Coudersport, PA, after a long illness.
     Born October 6, 1941 in Smethport, PA, he was a son of Robert E. and Elizabeth R. Ward Rea.
     Jerry attended Lafayette (PA) schools.  He worked on farms, mowed lawns, and also worked for Bill Holland on his trash route.  He had also worked at the Shinglehouse IGA.
     He formerly attended the Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church in Shinglehouse and presently attended the First Baptist Church in Shinglehouse.  Jerry volunteered for many years at the Shinglehouse Food Cupboard and also volunteered at Judson Baptist Camp and Conference Center in North Springfield, PA.  He enjoyed watching television, riding his bicycle, and collecting metal die cast trucks.  He loved animals.
     Surviving are a sister, Dorothy E. Nelson of Shinglehouse, PA; and several nieces and nephews, including a special grand-nephew, Bobby Nelson of Genesee, PA.
     In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by three brothers, William L. Rea, Harold R. “Bob” Rea, and Edgar L. “Roy” Rea.
     Friends may call on Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.   The Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, PA, will officiate.  Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse, PA.
     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 68, Shinglehouse, PA 16748 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
