Marge M. Shields
Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother
Portville - Marge M. Shields, of 5 Spring Court passed away Friday (Feb. 6, 2009) in her home after a brief illness.
Born Aug. 6, 1932, in Shinglehouse, PA, she was the daughter of the late Mark and Rebecca Dunshie Gustin. On June 11, 1950 in Alma, she married Francis W. (Baine) Shields who survives.
Mrs. Shields was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School. She worked at ACME Electric in Allegany and Cuba for many years and her husband owned and operated Shields Refrigeration and Appliances for 28 years in Portville.
Mrs. Shields was a lifetime member of both the Portville Fire Department Auxiliary and the Portville American Legion Auxiliary. She was a volunteer at Jonah's Attic in Portville.
Mrs. Shields enjoyed the family camp and bowling in the Olean and Bolivar bowling leagues. She was a caregiver for many friends and neighbors and anyone in need of help. She loved her lap dog, Bob.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Barry (Rebecca) Shields of Allegany, Kenny (Laura) Shields of Portville and Carey (Vickie) Shields of Obi; two daughters, Bonnie (Mark) Lyman of Cuba and Vivian Shields of Portville; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Patty (Calvin) Fuller of Shinglehouse, PA; a brother, Dewey (Alice) Gustin of Shinglehouse, PA; several nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Rhetta Gustin of Shinglehouse.
She was predeceased by a brother, Donald Gustin; a sister, Veronica Cole and a brother-in-law, James Cole.
Family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc. 51 S. Main St., Portville where funeral and committal services will be held Monday (Feb. 9, 2009) at 1pm. The Rev. Marilyn Hale, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville. Memorials may be made to Portville American Legion, Portville Volunteer Fire Department or the Portville Free Library.
