Francis B. Copeland


ARCADE, NY - Francis B. Copeland, 86, of Allen Street died Monday (June 14, 2010) at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville.
    Born May 24, 1924, in Lakewood, he was a son of Earnest and Maggie Chambers Copeland. On Aug. 19, 1947, in Eldred, PA, he married the former Jean Long, who survives.
    Mr. Copeland served with the U.S. Army Air Corps from April 26, 1943, through Jan. 31, 1946, and was a freight agent for Conrail in Rochester.
    He was a life member of Hendershott-Manness VFW Post 374 in Arcade, was a past member of the Arcade Fire Department and Rescue Squad and was a member of the Benevolent Firemen. He also sold tickets for the Arcade & Attica Railroad in the 1960s and 1980s.
    Surviving besides his wife of 62 years are his children, Diana Mayer of Arcade, John (Jackie) Copeland of Wethersfield, David (Robin) Copeland and Eleanor (Tom Matthews) Copeland, both of Arcade; seven grandchildren, Jason Mayer, Tonia Martynowicz, Amy Copeland, Tracy Gauthier, Jennifer Waldron, Shannon and Shane Copeland; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Winifred (Ken) Durphy of Eldred; and many nieces and nephews.
    In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Manley Copeland.
    Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, Inc., 358 W. Main St., Arcade, where funeral services will be held Thursday (June 17, 2010) at 11 a.m. The Rev. Kenneth Snyder will officiate. Burial will be in Arcade Rural Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arcade Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
