Sherril E. Stubbs
beloved wife, mother and grandmother
Oswayo, PA---Sherril E. Stubbs, 61, of Oswayo, PA, died surrounded by her loving family in her home on Friday, June 18, 2010 following a long illness.
Born May 17, 1949 in Olean, NY, she was a daughter of Keith ìWhiteyî Washburn and Ethelyn ìEssieî Newton Washburn Vandernick. On July 15, 1972 in Coudersport, she married Michael J. McChesney, who died in 1993. On February 14, 1998 in Coudersport, she married Jon A. Stubbs, who survives.
Mrs. Stubbs was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School, class of 1967. She was employed at Wagner Ace Hardware in Coudersport, which was formerly Frederickís True Value, for 32 years as a sales clerk, parts specialist, and at the time of her illness, she was the store manager.
She was a life member of the former Shinglehouse Volunteer Firemenís Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530 Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Stubbs served as an EMT for the Shinglehouse Volunteer Ambulance Association in the 1980ís.
She enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting, but most especially loved spending time with her family.
Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Tammi N. (Francis) Updyke of Bolivar, NY; a son Joseph M. (Paula) McChesney of Shinglehouse; two stepdaughters, Kari Stubbs of Shinglehouse and Alicia Stubbs of Spring Mountain, PA; three granddaughters, Kelsea Updyke, Danielle Olivia, and Sarah Stubbs; two grandsons, Clair Updyke and Michael Updyke; her stepmother, Thomasena ìTommieî Washburn of Allegany, NY; a sister, Rayola Appleby of Shinglehouse; two brothers, Carl Washburn of Hornell, NY and Neil Washburn of Allegany, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her first husband, Mrs. Stubbs was predeceased by her stepfather, Duane ìBuckî Vandernick.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA with the Rev. Ralph O. Wagner of Coudersport, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Potter County Hospice, 1001 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915 or St. Jude Childrenís Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
