Daniel Arnold Andrus


gentle, loving man
    BLACK CREEK, NY - Daniel Arnold Andrus, 79, of 8471 Spring Valley Road passed away Sunday (June 20, 2010) in Cuba Memorial Hospital's Palliative Care Unit after a lengthy illness.
    Born July 10, 1930, in Cuba, he was a son of Clayton B. and Marjorie Arnold Andrus. On July 20, 1951, in Friendship, he married Imogene Martin Andrus, who predeceased him. On Sept. 10, 1994, he married the former Norma L. Vogel, who survives.
    Mr. Andrus served with the U.S. Army from March 12, 1951, to Feb. 18, 1953. He was always proud to have served his country.
    He worked as a fork truck operator for Dresser-Rand in Olean prior to his retirement.
    Daniel was a member of the Cuba United Methodist Church and Cuba American Legion Post 655. He spent time doing senior activities at Highland Daycare Services.
    Mr. Andrus loved shopping at Dollar General and in his younger years enjoyed woodworking, building birdhouses and animal cut-outs, odd jobs for those in need and photography as well as traveling to various states. He especially enjoyed young children and spending time with his family.
    Surviving besides his wife Norma are three sons, Daniel (Laurie) Andrus of Hornell, Glenn (Carole) Andrus and Joe (Lisa) Andrus, both of Cuba; a daughter, Linda (Kirk) Sevray of Bradford, PA; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a stepson, Timothy (Donna) Vogel of Friendship; three stepdaughters, Glenda (Jim) Stocking of Belmont, Brenda (Paul) Prentice of Rushford and Carleen (Robert) Murphy of Black Creek; 11 stepgrandsons; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    In addition to his parents and first wife, he was predeceased by a son, Brian Andrus, who died at birth; a brother, Thurston Andrus in 1980; a sister, Carol Andrus in 1999; a stepgrandchild, Jessica Murphy, who died at birth; and a stepgreat-grandson, Collin Vogel.
    Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull St., Cuba, where funeral services will be held Wednesday (June 23, 2010) at 11 a.m. The Rev. Ronald Reichman will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship.
    Memorials may be made in Daniel's name to Children's Hospital of Buffalo or the New Hudson Fire Co.
