Marie Sands
“beloved mother and grandmother”
Shinglehouse, PA---Marie F. Sands, 87, of Shinglehouse, PA, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 in Charles Cole Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit, Coudersport, after a long illness.
Born August 17, 1922 in Oswayo, PA, she was a daughter of Charles and Emily Phillips Banks. On October 10, 1942 in Oswayo, PA, she married Forrest D. Sands, who predeceased her.
Mrs. Sands was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, class of 1940.
She was a member of the former Evangelical United Brethren Church, now the Oswayo United Methodist Church, where she taught various aged Sunday school classes. She was a former member of the Oswayo Valley Senior Center and its Shingle Shanty Band in Shinglehouse.
Mrs. Sands enjoyed doing plastic canvas, reading the Bible and other Christian books, and spending time with her family.
Surviving are her four children; Dennis W. (Loreta) Sands of Auburndale, Florida, Patricia M. (Gerald) Swain of Castile, NY, and twins, Karen A. (Lee) Konen of Shinglehouse and Kevin C. (Minerva) Sands of Portville, NY; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary A. Thomas of Maple Rapids, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Sands was predeceased by a granddaughter, Delia M. Sands; two sisters, A. Pauline Slaughter and Eva B. Brewer; and two sons-in-law, Francis A. Skiver, Jr. and Thomas L. Marvin.
Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA where funeral services will be held on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Fred Kemp, pastor of the Portville Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Rathbone Cemetery, Coneville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oswayo Valley Senior Center, 1005 East Honeoye Street, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
