Donald G. Bickford
PORT ALLEGANY- Donald G. Bickford, 80, formerly of 9 Liberty Lane, died Monday (Feb. 9, 2009) in Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.
Born Feb. 1, 1929, in Keating Township, PA, he was a son of Glenn G. and Fern Weimer Bickford. On July 18, 1948, in Port Allegany, he married Joyce L. Hurd, who survives.
Mr. Bickford was employed by Ball-Incon Co., Port Allegany, for many years, retiring in 1991. He also had worked for G.L. Carlson, Inc. of Turtlepoint, as a meat cutter, before his retirement.
He was a member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Port Allegany.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Joyce, are two sons, Tom F. (Sue) Bickford of Port Allegany, Donald A. (Sandy) Bickford of Emporium; five daughters, Linda S. (Don) Beeley of Rochester, NY, Joy E. (Denny) Williams, Jane A. (Dave) Harrier, Tina M. Safford all of Port Allegany, and Joan D. (Steve) Bartas of E. Smethport; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a brother, Kenneth Bickford of Emporium; two sisters, Lorraine Jaros of Coudersport, Irene Close of Galeton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Richard Bickford, Pete Bickford, Carl Bickford; and five sisters, Rita Blow, Donna Toombs, Madie Weidow, Trudy Pagano and Gladys Bickford.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 12, 2009) in Gethsemane Lutheran Church, with Rev. Thomas Beam, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
Memorials can be made to the Gethsemane Lutheran Church of a charity of the donor’s choice.
