WELLSVILLE, NY (July 20, 2010) - Megan O'Brien, DPT, was recently awarded her certification in Vestibular Rehabilitation from Emory University and the American Physical Therapy Association. The certification involved a six-day course, with four laboratory competencies and two written exams. This is the only competency-based course for vestibular rehab in physical therapy. A senior physical therapist at JMH, Megan is the only therapist in the area to hold this certificate.
Megan heads up the JMH Balance Clinic for people with dizziness or balance problems. With her additional training and certification in vestibular rehab, Megan specializes in helping people who have these problems to improve their symptoms.
According to Megan, the course of therapy may include exercises, hands-on procedures, and ideas for activity modification. "The goal of this type of therapy is to decrease dizziness, improve balance and allow people to return to their normal activities," she added.
