Howard D. (Howie) Pierce
loving husband, father and grandpa
LIMESTONE, NY - Howard D. "Howie" Pierce of 4450 Nichols Run Road passed away Thursday (Aug. 5, 2010) at home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with melanoma.
Born July 11, 1953, in Olean, he was a son of Earl and Mildred Fahy Pierce. On June 1, 1974, he married the former Brenda J. Blade, who survives.
Mr. Pierce was a 1971 graduate of Hinsdale Central School. He had been employed by Dresser-Rand Co. for the past 36 years, most recently as an inspector.
He was a member of Steelworkers Union Local 4601.
Mr. Pierce enjoyed fly fishing, tying his own lures, camping and was a big Buffalo Sabres fan. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving besides his wife of 36 years are a daughter, Amy L. (Benjamin Piche) Pierce of Limestone; two sons, Richard J. Pierce of Lubbock, TX, and Donald T. (Heidi) Pierce of Limestone; four grandchildren, Bird C. Piche, Kathryn G. Foulkrod, Alan M. Wildfire and River H. Piche; and four brothers, Thomas (Irene) Pierce of Elba, Gerald (Mary) Pierce and John (Mary) Pierce, both of Bolivar, and Richard (Betty) Pierce of Bradford, PA.
He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Benson; and two brothers, Henry and Lyle Pierce.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean, today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday (Aug. 7, 2010) from 1 to 3 p.m., at which time a memorial service will be held. The Rev. Samuel E. Marchetta, chaplain of HomeCare & Hospice, will officiate.
