Francis G. Barnes
FRIENDSHIP, NY - Francis G. Barnes, 85, of 11 Pennsylvania Ave., Friendship, a former Richburg and Bolivar resident, passed away Sunday (Aug. 8, 2010) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville following a brief illness.
Born Sept. 6, 1924, in Bolivar, he was a son of George and Elizabeth Knieffler Barnes. On July 3, 1943, in Ridgewood, NJ, he married the former Lorraine Jones, who survives.
Mr. Barnes was a retired employee of Empire Gas Co. in Wellsville, later was employed as a typesetter for the Bolivar Breeze and was a self-employed farmer.
He was a member of IOOF Lodge 515 of Bolivar. Francis served as Town of Wirt supervisor for four years and as town assessor.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Philip (Shirley) Barnes of Richburg and James (Kathleen) Barnes of Little Genesee; two daughters, Gayle (Ron) Dunmire of Friendship and Diana (Greg) Mosher of Channahon, IL; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Ellen Barnes.
Friends may call at the Schaffner Funeral Home, Inc., Bolivar, on Thursday (Aug. 12, 2010) from 6 to 7 p.m., at which time a memorial service will be held.
Pastor Clint Pearsall of Faith Bible Church in Little Genesee will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar.
Memorials to the Salvation Army, 310 E. State St., Olean, NY 14760, would be appreciated by the family.
