Matthew Walega


Born Jan. 20, 1939, he was the son of Josephine Woodard and his late stepfather, Lawrence Woodard.
    Mr. Walega loved Florida and was a resident of Boca Raton for 30 years. After his longtime companion, Sara, passed away, he moved to Olean. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and playing bingo.
    Surviving besides his mother are four sisters, Carrie Farraro of Olean, Shirley Anastasia of Olean, Linda Learn of West Clarksville and Joan Woodard of West Clarksville; an aunt, Julia Shoup of Olean; a cousin, Gloria Lute of Allegany; and several nieces and nephews.
    Besides his stepfather and his companion Sara, he was predeceased by his uncle Wally.
    Family will receive friends at Guenther Funeral Home, 1303 E. State St. from 7 to 8 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 14, 2010) at St. Mary of the Angels Church. Father Gregory Dobson will be celebrant. Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery in Olean.
