Elizabeth L. (Liz) Barber


    FRIENDSHIP, NY - Elizabeth L. "Liz" Barber, 82, of 73 E. Main St. died Tuesday (Aug. 24, 2010) at home following a lengthy illness.
    Born March 7, 1928, in Cuba, she was a daughter of Clinton and Clara Houston Dewey. On March 23, 1946, in the Belfast Baptist Church, she married Elbert T. Barber, who died Sept. 1, 2007.
    Liz had resided in Friendship most of her life and was a graduate of Belfast Central School, class of 1946.
    She and her husband lived in Belfast for a few years, then moved to the town of New Hudson to be near her husband's parents. In 1966, they moved to to Friendship, where Liz took in many foster children.
    For many years, she was a cafeteria worker at Cuba Memorial Hospital.
    She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed feeding them. She loved her cats, especially loved her family and was devoted to her grandchildren. Liz was a good Christian lady who, when she couldn't attend church, watched Christian programs on TV.    
    Surviving are two sons, Jeffery L. Barber and Bradley L. Barber, both of Friendship; a daughter, Bonnie L. (Dennis) Cross of Friendship; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Eva Steffen of Lawrence, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was predeceased by a son, Gregory Barber, in 1995; and a brother, Ambrose Dewey.
    There will be no visitation or service. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Belfast.
    Memorials may be made to the Friendship Ambulance Squad.
    Arrangements are under the direction of the Treusdell Funeral Home, Friendship.
