Buddy 'Bud' Laverne Hewitt
CUBA - Buddy "Bud" Laverne Hewitt, 78, formerly of 9263 Beebe Hill Road, Cuba, and Friendship, died June 2, 2010, at Absolut of Salamanca following a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 9, 1931, in Portville, he was a son of Benjamin Clifford and Florence Loraine Wilber Hewitt.
Bud lived most of his life in the Friendship-Cuba areas. He grew up in Friendship and was a graduate of Friendship Central School, class of 1950. He played baseball, soccer and was an outstanding basketball player.
He was employed for over 50 years as a mechanical drafter and engineer for Acme Electric Corp. in Cuba, retiring in 2000.
Bud was a fan of classic cars and had owned several including a 1957 Chevy, 1963 Belair, 1969 Skylark, 1989 Reatta and 1999 Corvette. He was a big fan of the Buffalo Bills and St. Bonaventure basketball and enjoyed snowmobiling.
Surviving are two daughters, Marjeanne "Jeannie" Hewitt (Paul) Lande of Camden, Del., and Marsha Hewitt Custer of Dover, Del.; two sons, Jeffrey L. Hewitt of Hinsdale and Timothy (Julie) Hewitt of Kennedy; grandchildren, Monica George (Eric) Lucas of Anchorage, Alaska, Jessica George (Jermaine) Hodges of Magnolia, Del., Cody and Michael Custer of Dover, Elizabeth Hewitt (Ryan) Tipton of Warren, Pa., Robert Hewitt of Kennedy, Nolan Hewitt and Ayren Hewitt, both of Hinsdale; great-grandchildren, Madison, Meaghan and Evin Lucas of Anchorage, Kayla and Keira Hodges of Magnolia and Owen Ryan Tipton of Warren; a sister, Marge (Joseph) Anderson of Wellsville; a brother, Wendall (Roxie) Hewitt of Bolivar; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, James and Doug Hewitt.
There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Saturday (Aug. 28, 2010) at 11 a.m. in the Treusdell Funeral Home, Friendship. Burial will be in Obi Cemetery.
