Carl E. Schwab
beloved brother, uncle and neighbor
DUKE CENTER, PA - Carl E. Schwab, 66, of Kansas Branch Road, died Thursday (Aug. 26, 2010) of injuries sustained in an accident at his camp in Summit Township, Potter County.
Born Dec. 23, 1943, in Olean, NY, he was a son of Carmon C. and Velma M. Brown Schwab.
Mr. Schwab was a 1961 graduate of Otto-Eldred High School and was a lifetime resident of Duke Center. He also enjoyed spending time at his camp, Spring Haven, on Long Toe Road, on the Prouty, Potter County.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the U.S. Army as a medical corpsman. He had been employed for more than 40 years at Clark Brothers, which later became Dresser-Rand, in Olean, retiring from the distribution center in 2006. He attended Duke Center United Methodist Church and the church in Sweden Valley.
He was a member of the Local 4601 of the United Steelworkers of America and volunteered for the Meals On Wheels program.
His first love was spending time at his camp with family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was known for his teasing and sense of humor and will be sadly missed.
Surviving are two brothers, Larry "Butch" Schwab of Bradford and Duane Schwab of Warren; a sister, Marice "Mickey" McClelland; six nieces, Cathy (Joe) Wills, Lynn (Bill) VanGuilder, Tara (David Bennett) Keller, Michelle (Scot) Oxley, Lori (Paul Eade) Welch and Jamie (Joe) Auteri; two nephews, Greg (Stephanie) McClelland and Rick Schwab, and several great-nieces and -nephews.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at Carl's camp, Spring Haven, on Long Toe Road, off Route 44 in Sweden Valley at 3 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 29, 2010).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607; to the Duke Center Cemetery Association; or to the Otto Township Fire Department.
