M. Elaine Whitford Fitzgerald
WEST CLARKSVILLE, NY - M. Elaine Whitford Fitzgerald, formerly of West Clarksville, passed away Aug. 8, 2010, at Mary Manning Walsh Nursing Home in New York City.
She was born in Stamford, CN, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. Frank Whitford. In 1949 in Stamford, she married Robert Fitzgerald, who predeceased her.
Mrs. Fitzgerald graduated from Alfred State College with a degree in English. She taught English classes in her younger years and later worked at Farnsworth Cookies in Cuba prior to her retirement. She had lived in West Clarksville all of her married life before moving to Brooklyn in 2007 to be with her daughter.
Mrs. Fitzgerald loved her dogs, walking and exercising and will be remembered for always having a cheerful outlook on life. She especially enjoyed the time she spent at the family camp in Pennsylvania.
Surviving are a son-in-law, Jack Keaveny of Brooklyn; a sister, Beverly Nichols of Stamford; a brother-in-law, Thomas (Jane) Fitzgerald of New Florence, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Diedra Keaveny, who died Aug. 23, 2009; a brother-in-law, Walter C. Fitzgerald; and a sister-in-law, Jean Chiochette.
At Mrs. Fitzgerald's request, there will be no visitation or funeral services. Private committal services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family in West Clarksville Cemetery, Town of Clarksville.
Local arrangements are under direction of Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home and Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull St., Cuba.
