Erwin P. Ward
loving husband and father
NORTH WILKESBORO, NC - Erwin P. Ward of 5742 Sparta Road, North Wilkesboro, formerly of North Branch Road, Friendship, NY, passed away at home on Thursday (Aug. 26, 2010), surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Dec. 14, 1936, in the town of Clarksville, he was a son of Orrin and Genevieve Linza Ward. On Aug. 3, 2010, in North Wilkesboro, he married Winifred Morsman, who survives.
Mr. Ward served with the National Guard Reserves for three years from 1961 to 1964.
He worked for the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad as a laborer for 30 years. He then worked three years for the town of Wirt and about a year for Macler Industries of Friendship. He moved to North Wilkesboro in 2005.
Mr. Ward was a member of the Horse Pullers Association and a former member of the Friendship American Legion. He enjoyed horse pulling, walking, hunting, telling good stories, western movies and old songs. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving besides his wife are four children, Brian L. Ward of Friendship, Jeff A. Ward of Belfast, NY, Lori A. (Sam) Clark of Wellsville, NY, and Christine L. Ward of North Wilkesboro; three stepchildren, Robert L. (Ginny) Snyder of Fairview, OK, Bonnie L. (James) Livergood of Chesterfield, SC, and Tammy L. (Randall) Gilbert of North Wilkesboro; several grandchildren; a brother, Jerry (Barb) Ward of Friendship; and two sisters, Shirley (Donald) Coombes of West Almond, NY, and Anita (Bob) Cimbricz of Kill Buck, NY.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Lawrence and Gilbert Ward; and a sister, Joan Ward.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Genesee Parkway, Cuba, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Per Mr. Ward's request, there will be no funeral service. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship, following visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
