H. Rudy Anderson

PORT ALLEGANY- H. Rudy Anderson, 93, of Smith Ave., went to be with his Lord Saturday (Sept. 18, 2010) in Lakeview Senior Care & Living Center, Smethport, surrounded by family.
Born April 24, 1917, in Port Allegany, he was a son of Albert E. and Christine Johnson Anderson. On Sept. 6, 1941, in Emporium, PA, he married Grace V. Close, who died Oct. 16, 2003. They were married 62 years.
He was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, Class of “34”.
He was a veteran of WWII having served with the US Navy, in the Philippine Liberation Campaign, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Victory Medal.
From 1936-1939, he was a builder working with Walter Hall, a contractor for the famous Fallingwater Home, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
He was a self-employed carpenter and co-owner with his brother-in-law, James Eicher, of Anderson & Eicher Builders, Port Allegany, from 1949-1983.
He was a lifetime member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Port Allegany, 50 yr. member of Liberty Lodge 505, F. & A.M., Port Allegany, and member of the Coudersport Consistory.
Surviving is a son, James E. (Debbie) Anderson of Ruston, LA; two daughters, Darlene M. (Jim) Baker of Wellsboro, Christine L. (Rodney) Drabert of Osceola, PA; 9 grandchildren: Jerry (Jean) Anderson of Bradford, Elizabeth (Chris) Coston of Mt. Dora, FL, Joshua (Randi) Anderson of Longview, TX, Sherri (Duane) Bittner of Zephyrhills, FL, Sara (Joe) Newberry of Wesley Chapel, FL, April Drabert of Tampa, FL, Kent (Christie) Drabert of Osceola, PA; 21 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marian Eicher of Port Allegany, and Edna Smith of York, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Grace, a grandson, Joel E. Anderson, a great-great grandson, Joshua M. Vos, Jr.; two sisters, Emily Maddux and Mildred Ferris.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany. A celebration of Rudy’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 22, 2010) in the Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Port Allegany, with Rev. Thomas Beam, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany, at the convenience of the family.
A Masonic service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
