Melford R. Taylor


“beloved husband, father and grandfather”

BOLIVAR, NY---Melford R. Taylor, 72, of Bolivar, entered into rest on Saturday, October 2, 2010 following a brief illness.

Born August 31, 1938 in Olean, he was a son of Melford M. “Coon” and Nell C. Dunshie Taylor. On May 1, 1994 at his home in Bolivar, he married Debra S. Olmstead, who survives.

Mr. Taylor was a graduate of Bolivar High School, class of 1957. He was employed in local oil and gas fields for the former McDonald Oil Company, Bolivar and the former McCarthy Oil Company, Bolivar. He later was employed at Air Preheater in Wellsville as a welder and welding technician for 40 years until retiring in January of 2000. Mr. Taylor also operated his own welding shop until the time of his illness.

He was a member of Macedonia Lodge #258 F & AM in Bolivar. An avid snowmobiler, Mr. Taylor was a member of the Allegany County Trail Blazers in Bolivar. He also enjoyed hunting and riding his 4-wheeler. He very much loved to visit with his welding customers and friends.

Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Rick L. (Kim Nowak) Taylor of Ceres, NY, Dan L. Taylor of Eldred, PA, and Todd M. (Tracy) Taylor of Bolivar; a stepson, Scott A. Olmstead of Bolivar; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Gary W. (Connie) Taylor of Little Genesee; an aunt, Betty Dunshie of Shinglehouse; three sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Taylor was predeceased by his parents.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar.

Members of Macedonia Lodge #258 F & AM will conduct a memorial service on Tuesday evening at 8:45 p.m. in the funeral home.

Flowers are gratefully declined and will be provided by the family. Memorials may be made to the Bolivar Fire Department, Main Street, Bolivar, NY 14715.
