Ruth H. Hauck




     SMETHPORT- Ruth H. Hauck, 88, of Emerald Isle, went home to be with her precious Lord and Saviour, on Monday (Mar. 2, 2009) in Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.
     Born December 24, 1920, in Turtlepoint, PA, she was a daughter of Lee M. and Mary Johnson Leet. On Feb. 26, 1939, in Port Allegany, she married Howard C. Hovis, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 26, 1970, in Port Allegany, she married Frank Hauck, who died July 14, 1978.
       Mrs. Hauck owned and operated Ruth’s Beauty Salon, Smethport, for many years, before her retirement.
     She was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, Class of 1937, and graduate of the Continental Beauty School, Bradford.
     She was a member of the East Smethport United Christian Church. She was a former Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school teacher, former 4-H Leader, Hospice home health volunteer, delivered Meals on Wheels; was a Literacy volunteer, member of American Association of Retired Persons and Smethport Senior Center. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, and reading.
      Surviving are three sons, Robert L. Hovis of Port Allegany, Kenneth D. (Marsha) Hovis of Apache Junction, AZ, Lionel B. “Lonnie” (Barb) Hovis of Port Allegany; five daughters, Carolyn E. Smith of Prescott, AZ, Mary A. (Gary) Tronetti and Dolores K. “Dee” Brown, both of Port Allegany, Donna J. (Jerry) Shelander of Smethport, Linda C. (Fred) Harteis of Harrisburg, PA; 2 stepdaughters, Dorothy J. Peeler of Orlando, FL, and Eva Jane Gibbson of Tucson, AZ; 30 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, Howard Hovis and Frank Hauck; four brothers, Harold E. Leet, Raymond M. Leet, Frederick “Fritz” Leet, and Eugene B. Leet; and a sister, Victoria Leet.
     Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (Mar. 7, 2009) in the First Baptist Church, Port Allegany, with Rev. Allen Young, pastor of the East Smethport United Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Grimes Cemetery, Port Allegany.
    Memorials can be made to the McKean County VNA Hopice or the East Smethport United Christian Church.
