Rose Mary Bowker


loving mother, grandmother and friend

    PORTVILLE, NY - Rose Mary Bowker of 90 S. Main St., Apt. 211, passed away Sunday (March 1, 2009) shortly after arrival at Olean General Hospital.
    Born Oct. 24, 1932, in Friendship, she was a daughter of Frank and Gladys Wheeler Speta. On Oct. 28, 1950, she married James Huling Bowker, who passed away in 1972 after 22 years of marriage.
    Mrs. Bowker attended Richburg Central School. She worked at Macler Industries for more than 25 years as a core maker and die-press operator until retiring in 1994. She later worked as a home-health aide at Jan and Bev's Home Care Inc. of Wellsville.
    She enjoyed shopping and especially liked spending time with and taking care of her grandchildren.
    Surviving are a son, James E. (Sue) Bowker of Cuba; five daughters, Bonnie L. (Keith) Tarr of Allegany, Jeannie M. (Don) Ives of Cambridge Springs, Pa., Connie A. Bowker of Wellsville, Kathy S. (Randy) Slade of Scio and Evelyn Bowker of Wellsville; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph (Janie) Speta of Cuba; and a sister, Edwina (Dennis) Allen of Cuba.
    In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Robert Edward Bowker, on Sept. 11, 2007; and two sisters, Dormay Crawford and Joanne Speta.
    A celebration of life for friends and family will be held at Wellsville Moose Lodge 242, Maple Avenue, on Wednesday (March 4, 2009) at 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
    Arrangements are under direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home Inc., Cuba.
