Mitchell Dean Stahlman


former Western Auto owner

    ELDRED, PA - Mitchell Dean Stahlman, 85, formerly of Eldred, died Wednesday (Feb. 23, 2011) at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport following a long illness.
    Born Jan. 1, 1926, he was a son of Brinton M. and Lula C. Campbell Stahlman.
    Dean was a 1942 graduate of Eldred High School and in 1950 received a degree in business from St. Bonaventure University.
    A lifelong resident of Eldred, he was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army Infantry in the European Theater. He had owned and operated the Western Auto Store in Eldred from 1951 until his retirement in 1982.
    Dean was a past member of Eldred American Legion Post 887, Eldred VFW Post 2092 and the Eldred Conservation Club. He loved riding his motorcycle and driving his Corvette, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
    Surviving are two daughters, Trudy (Bill) Russell of New Kingston, N.Y., and Terri (Alan) Rees of Greenville, S.C.; two grandchildren, Casey and Heather Russell; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was predeceased by a brother, Max Stahlman; and a sister, Kathryn Aiken.
    Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
    Arrangements are under direction of the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred.
