Ardeth H. O'Connor
loving wife, mother, and grandmother
PORTVILLE, NY - Ardeth H. O'Connor of Butternut Brook Road passed away Thursday (March 3, 2011) at Olean General Hospital.
Born in Leeper, PA, on April 19, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Annetta McGuire Walter. On Feb. 7, 1948, in Niagara Falls, she married James M. O'Connor, who survives.
Ardeth was a resident of Butternut Brook Road since 1958. During the 1940s, she was employed at Bell Aircraft Corp.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and its Altar Society. Ardeth was a great bridge player. She loved reading and was an avid golfer and Yankees fan.
Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Barbara O'Connor of Los Lunas, NM; a son, Charles O'Connor of Portville; two granddaughters, Elizabeth (Oscar) Gaines of Olean and Katherine O'Connor of Manhattan; three brothers, Lloyd Walter and James Walter, both of Erie, PA; and George Walter of Vowinkel, PA; a sister, Leah Crawford of Philadelphia, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Patricia O'Connor; and three sisters.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 51 S. Main St., Portville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Monday (March 7, 2011) at Sacred Heart Oratory in Portville, with Father Gregory Dobson, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
