Henry G.(Hank) Orr

Hebron, PA---Henry G. “Hank” Orr, 77, of Hebron, PA, formerly of Sweden Valley and Mountville, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 in Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA after a long illness.
Born February 11, 1932 in Lancaster County, PA, he was a son of Henry J. and Mae Long Orr. On May 23, 1970 in Mountville, PA, he married Doris M. McKinney, who survives.
He attended school in the former Sweden Valley Country School and in Mountville, PA. Mr. Orr, at the age of 18, enlisted in the U.S. Army having served in the 101st Airborne Division during the Korean War. He was a sniper at the Russian border.
Moving from Elizabethtown in 1977, Hank along with his wife, Doris, purchased the former Saw and Wedge Tavern in Sweden Valley which they owned and operated for 17 years until retiring in 1994. Prior to owning the Saw and Wedge, Mr. Orr was a steeplejack and a construction worker.
He was a member of the Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530, a life member and former board member of the Sweden Feedin’ Club in Sweden Valley, a member of the NRA and a member of AARP. He loved to hunt and be outdoors. He also loved to visit with his friends.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Glenn W. (Cindy) Orr of Marietta, PA; three stepchildren: Wanda Lee (Erhard Reese) Long of Ulysses, PA, Denise M. (Phil) Moore of Mount Joy, PA, and Thomas A. (Sandi) Reed of Elizabethtown, PA; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Orr was preceded in death by an adopted son, Guy Robert Orr.
At Mr. Orr’s request there will be no public visitation. Friends are invited to join Hank’s family on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Shinglehouse American Legion Post #530, Route 44, Shinglehouse, PA from 1 to 4 p.m. to share memories and celebrate Hank’s life. Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord full military honors at 4 p.m. at the Legion.
