William E. (Bud) Schroll


“beloved father and grandfather”

Coudersport, PA---William E. “Bud” Schroll, 84, of Coudersport, PA, died Saturday, March 28, 2009 in Charles Cole Memorial Hospital Extended Care Unit, Coudersport, PA after a long illness.
     Born October 12, 1924 in Peach Bottom Township, York County, PA, he was a son of John E. and Ethel E. Craig Schroll. On October 16, 1972 in Portville, NY, he married Naomi F. Johnson DeLill, who died on October 11, 2008.
     Mr. Schroll attended a one room country school in York County.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in the South Pacific on the U.S.S. Talego during World War II.  He retired from Dresser Rand in Olean, NY where he was employed as a welder.  He also owned and operated Schroll’s Kennels in Coudersport in addition to a fur buying business.
     A resident of Coudersport for over 30 years, Mr. Schroll previously lived in Collinsville, PA.
     Mr. Schroll was a member of the Sweden Valley Faith United Methodist Church in Sweden Valley, a member of American Legion Post #192 in Coudersport, a member of Eulalia Lodge #342 in Coudersport, a member of the Coudersport Consistory and a member of the East Fork Sportsmen’s Club in East Fork.
     He loved to trap, fish, and hunt with his coon dogs.  He was a NASCAR enthusiast.
     Surviving are two daughters, Helen E. “Susie” (Melvin) Glatfelter of Airville, PA and Reba A. (James) Waltemyer of Windsor, PA; one stepdaughter, Debbie A. Lentz of Roulette, PA; two stepsons, Donald P. (Julie) DeLill of Sweden Valley, PA and Ronald D. DeLill of Burnette, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Sara Crawford of York, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
     In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Schroll was predeceased by a sister, Olive Schroll.
     Friends may call on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Sweden Valley Faith United Methodist Church, Route 6, Sweden Valley where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.  The Rev. M. Thomas Shatto, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be in the Eulalia Cemetery.
     Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord full military honors on Wednesday.
     Members of Eulalia Lodge #342 will conduct a memorial service on Wednesday at 10:50 a.m. in the Sweden Valley Faith United Methodist Church.
     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
     Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
