Shinglehouse, PA---Harry E.C. Kidd, 91, of Shinglehouse, PA passed away, Sunday October 9, 2011 in his home.
Born February 29, 1920 in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the first of 13 children born to Harry E. and Clara (Jones) Kidd. He lived in Baltimore and moved to New York City at the age of 5.
On July 22, 1943, in New York City, he married Alice Petzen, who survives.
Mr. Kidd served in the United States Army from 1941-1944. After his military service, Mr. Kidd spent his career working for B&O Railroad, the Canadian National Railroad, and the VIA Railroad as a Passenger Service Manager in New York City. He served as the President of the Professional Travel Association SKAL. Retiring in 1980, he and his wife relocated to Shinglehouse, PA in 1982.
Mr. Kidd was a member of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church in Shinglehouse, PA. Harry was also active in the Oswayo Valley Senior Center, where he organized many activities.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Kidd is survived by one son, Harry Allan (Lydia) Kidd of Vero Beach, Florida; one daughter, Sue Littlejohn of Antioch, California; one sister, Elizabeth May (William) Armstrong of Berlin, Maryland; two grandchildren, Llewelyn John (Janice) Kidd and Joshua James (Jennifer) Kidd both of Shinglehouse, PA; and three great grandchildren, Carissa Lynn Kidd, Elizabeth Mae Kidd, and Sarah Grace Kidd all of Shinglehouse, PA.
At Mr. Kidd’s request, there will be no public visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 6:30 PM with the Reverend Becky Edwards, pastor, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, PO Box 296, Shinglehouse, PA 16748 or the Oswayo Valley Senior Center, 1005 East Honeoye St., Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
