Lila M. LaBella


ELDRED, PA - Lila M. LaBella, 86, of Elm Street passed away Tuesday (Dec. 27, 2011) at home following a lengthy illness.
    Born March 15, 1925, in Kane, she was a daughter of Howard and Aline Davis Cox and was raised by Anna "Ma" Davis, her grandmother, and her uncle, Father Harland J. (Robert OFM) Davis. On Nov. 28, 1946, in St. Raphael's Church, Eldred, she married Philip R. LaBella, who passed away Feb. 1, 2005.
    Lila attended Kane High School and graduated from St. Marys High School in 1943 and Sharon General Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1946. She had resided in Eldred since 1946.
    Mrs. LaBella was employed as a nurse at the Mountain Clinic and St. Francis Hospital, both in Olean, NY, and later at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport until her retirement in 1983.
    She was a member of St. Raphael's Church in Eldred, a member and past president of the Alter Rosary Society, and she taught CCD. She was a member of the Eldred Nurses Association, a lifetime member of the Eldred Fire Department and a volunteer at the Eldred Senior Center. She enjoyed swimming and bird watching.
    Surviving are two sons, Patrick R. (Bernadette) LaBella of Olean and Philip J. (Marjorie) LaBella of Eldred; four daughters, Mary Ann (Thomas) Emerson of Rochester, NY, Catherine (Phillip) Trask of Allegany, NY, and Homosassa, FL, Martha E. (Lance) Baker of Eldred and Regina F. (James) Tkacik of Portville, NY; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
    She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Ann Nicole Emerson, in 2006; and a sister, Roberta Gaffey, in 2002.
    Friends may call today from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday (Dec. 30, 2011) at 11 a.m. in St. Raphael's Church, Eldred, with Father Thomas E. Brown as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Raphael's Cemetery, Eldred.
    The rosary will be recited this evening at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
