Kenneth M. Barrie


    GOWANDA, NY - Kenneth M. "Scotty" Barrie, 87, of Buffalo Street, passed away (Jan. 26, 2012) at the Gowanda Rehab and Nursing Facility, where he had been since Jan. 5, 2012.
    Scotty was born Nov. 24, 1924, in Ceres Pa., the son of the late Francis and Anna Belle (Taylor) Barrie.
    Ken graduated from Salamanca High School.
    Survivors include a son, Kenneth R. Barrie of Vernon, and two daughters, Mrs. Ricky (Debra) Bender, of Crete, Ill., and Mrs. Larry (Renae) Wenrich, of Wallingford, Pa.; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; three sisters, Mrs. John (Diane) Gilligan, of DelMar, Calif., Mrs. Jim (Carol) Freer, of Smethport, Pa., and Mrs. Brian (Susan) Kellogg, of Dunkirk. Also surviving are nine nieces and nephews.
    Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Schindler Funeral Home, 44 Center St., Gowanda. The Phoenix Lodge will hold a memorial prayer at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening. There will also be visitation one hour prior to his service Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 4, 2012) at the funeral home, with full military honors.
    Ken will be buried next to his mother in Ceres Cemetery.
    Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 409, to James Cruden VFW Post 5007, Gowanda, NY 14070, or to the American Red Cross.
