Henry S. (Hank) Kromar


loving husband, father and grandfather

    PORTVILLE - Henry S. "Hank" Kromar, 86, of Portville, NY died Thursday (June 25, 2009) at The Pines Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Olean, NY after a long illness.
    Born April 10, 1923, in Indian Creek, PA, he was a son of John and Ginney Mestick Kromar. In 1944, he married Mary Helen Green, who died Dec. 1, 1975. On May 24, 1980, in Coudersport, PA, he married Marlene A. "Marty" Kelligan, who survives.
    Mr. Kromar attended Indian Creek Country School for three years and completed his education in the Otto-Eldred township schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II and attained the rank of staff sergeant.
    He was employed in local oil fields for five years and later was employed for 31 years by Columbus Gas as a welder and chief inspector and in pipeline construction.
    Mr. Kromar served 11 years on the Little Genesee Town Board. He loved gardening, fishing and playing cards with his family and friends. His greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Kathleen (Lynn) Lotter of Portville, NY, a stepdaughter, Colleen M. (Wally) Ramsey of Oswayo, PA; two grandsons, Preston Lotter and Chase Lotter; three step grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, Macy Lotter; nine step great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Allen of Colesburg, PA; a sister-in-law, Helen Kromar of Olean, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
    In addition to his parents and first wife, he was predeceased by a son, John Kromar; and a brother, Edward Kromar.
    Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Monday (June 29, 2009) at 11 a.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 S. Union St., Shinglehouse, PA, with Kathryn Boyd, lay speaker of the Sweden Valley (PA) Faith United Methodist Church, officiating.
    Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord military honors on Monday at the funeral home.
    A luncheon will follow the services at the home of Colleen and Wally Ramsey, 364 Route 244, Oswayo/Coneville Rd., Oswayo, PA.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an American Legion of the donor's choice or to a charity of the donor's choice.
