David L. Schmid
loving father, grandfather, brother, friend
ELDRED, PA --- David L. Schmid, 63, of McCrea Brook Road died Wednesday (July 8, 2009) at home following a lengthy illness.
Born Aug. 1, 1945, in Salamanca, NY, he was a son of Harvie L. and Beryl M. Jones Schmid.
Mr. Schmid was a 1963 graduate of Bradford High School and had lived in McCrea Brook for over 30 years.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was a sergeant with the US Air Force, serving as a lab technician.
He has been employed in the laboratory of Olean (NY) General Hospital for 10 years , was later employed in the lab of the Wormer Medical Clinic in Portville, NY, and worked for the Medical Laboratory in Olean until 2002.
He was a lifelong auto enthusiast and was active in drag racing for many years in the Eastern United States. He also built stock car engines for local drivers and was an avid NASCAR and local stock car fan. He enjoyed baseball and hunting.
Surviving are a son, Bradley Schmid of Erie; a daughter, Kimberly (Wesley) Palmer of Erie; two grandchildren, Hayley Palmer and Levi Palmer; a sister, Gretchen (Lee) Gallagher of Lewis Run; a niece, Cheryl (Dan) Johnson, and a nephew, Brent (Stacy) Gallagher.
He was predeceased by a brother and sister in infancy and a grandson, Andrew Palmer in 2005.
Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred, where funeral services will be held Saturday (July 11, 2009) at 11am. The Rev. James DuBois will officiate.
Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca.
The family requests memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
